2 Shifts at UNI

Monday 9/8/2008
1st shift on inpatient unit in 4 months
2 patients assigned to me
1 patient lost before 10 am (On a locked unit. Nice.)
3 staff for 5 kids upstairs
2 staff for 6 kids downstairs
breakfast, attmepting to convince 1 kid that Kidstar was cancelled for the day
1 morning of watching Fluke, the most unintentially creepy movie of all time
1 afternoon in Kidstar
4 attemtps at Burger Tycoon on addictinggames.com
2 time outs with 1 patient requiring 4 staff to escort patient to 1st time out room
1 locked seclusion requiring 5 staff to escort patient to 2nd time out room
3 kicks by 1 kid aimed at me in the elevator
30 minutes spent in time out room, screaming
1 crash course in locked seclusion paper work
1 15 minute mini re-training session on how to chart on the computer
4 pages of paper charting
45 minutes late leaving hospital
1 large nap to finish it all off
Thursday 9/11/2008
1st shift on the adolescent side in 4 months
6 staff for 18 smelly teenagers
4 nurses
3 patients assigned to me
1 patient of mine in time out room at start of shift
9 people wishing me luck with 1 particular patient of mine
1 new admit assigned to me increasing my patient count to 4
1 disucssion about athletes foot of the face
2 patients on the "No Fun Program"
1 body check with 2 staff
1 5 minute mini-training session on how to work the new thermometor
6 patients asking me if I was new
2 time out sessions
8 clean towels handed out
Sworn at for about 45 minutes straight
0 breaks taken
2 tearful pity parties
3 supportive staff friends
1 load of laundry
11 pages of paper charting
3 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made for my patients
1 unsuccessful attempt to roll/twirl/spin ball in my hand
4 patients, 4 showers, 4 evening snacks
4 sleeping girls
1 super tired Kayla

You're a strong woman to be able to do that job! Love ya!

You're making a difference in the lives of ingrates. Someday they WILL look back on their time with you fondly. I look at all time spent with you fondly!
